Hello.

If you're looking for the blog once called evolution, it's gone. Its author has retired from blogging. Unlike the last time the poor schmuck tried to retire, this retirement will be permanent.

He told me that he just purchased a house. He's working toward credentials to become a health insurance actuary (at least for now), and he has a number of little nieces and nephews he'd like to see more often. He's got rows of unopened books in his book case, and wants to get back to music and the analog writing (you know, on paper) he used to do before the big e's heyday, which has been some years ago now. He has had some relatively minor health problems, and he said that he really couldn't handle the bitterness anymore -- neither anyone else's nor his own -- that comes with writing about his chosen topic in this medium, and didn't at all like the person he thought he might become as a result.

He said that he had been profoundly changed by the experience, that he'd learned a lot, and that he doesn't regret anything he's ever said. By God, the old crank even shifted his politics because of it. He just thought that it had outlived its purpose.

But most of all, he said he wanted to find a way to enjoy life and all that there is in it to enjoy while he has the wherewithal to do so.

He also told me that when he gets to it, i.e., when the medication wears off, he'll be hanging out at El Borak's Myopia.

So if you see an old man in a funny hat muttering to himself about "the primacy of the individual", underground barter economies, actuarial exams, and possibly group insurance regulations -- just don't approach him suddenly from behind. Treat him kindly, won't you?

Yours most sincerely,

Markoff T. Chaney (representative of the author).
