about the author

I am called j.d., and I was born October 14, 1976 in Lawrence, Kansas, a city of about 80,000 40 miles west of Kansas City. I grew up in a small town near there called Eudora.
I have a master’s degree in mathematics from Kansas State University, and I spent a year in the mathematics Ph.D. program at Purdue University. Most recently, I was a high school math teacher in Kansas, and I worked for a few months at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka. I now live in Lawrence, where I help run a small educational tech-support operation. I am also studying for the Society of Actuaries exams, for the purpose of future employment in the actuarial field.
This Web site has been online since 2001, but the first appearance of evolution as a weblog was June 18, 2002. Before that, I ran a small group blog called Eudora All-Stars, which was a community of people from my hometown. I started blogging in late 2001. I have maintained a Web presence in some form continuously since 1996. My politics run right-of-center with what I think is a ferocious independent streak.
evolution: take the next step is powered by Wordpress and hosted by Total Choice Hosting, LLC. Ads are provided by AdBrite. The graphics were pieced together by me using random bits of clip art from around the Web — except for the icons, which are the Sanscons collection. The headline and title font is Century Gothic, and the main text font is Palatino Linotype.
