i almost forgot to tell this story: i saw a girl in a hopped-up electric wheelchair run over two math professors today on my way back from lunch. she was highballing around the corner in fifth gear and bumped prof. strecker from behind, knocking him down. prof. saeki helped him up, and i stopped to see if everyone was okay. i couldn’t even get a word in edgewise, as all three people were swearing up and down that they were okay. i had to be back at the office just then, so i let them sort it out and hurried back once i saw everyone was all right. then i started laughing very hard.

i think i am getting sick. the bad thing about universities is that illness spreads like wildfire in this environment - 20,000 people sharing the same 4 square blocks.

i did not accomplish much today. i didn’t get much homework done, and my calculus students for the most part just stared at me while i was giving today’s lesson. tomorrow is another day, right?

MANHATTAN, Ks. - An entire class full of graduate students studying Higher Algebra was lost on Tuesday. Witnesses last saw them somewhere in Cardwell Hall on the Kansas State University campus. “I don’t know what happened,” said Ernie Shult, the widely-respected professor of mathematics, who was leading the class. “I just turned around and they were way out there.” Student Ray McCubrey added, “I never even thought to turn around and check on them. I never come to class, so I guess I’m really lucky.” Governor Bill Graves signed an order shortly before noon authorizing the Kansas National Guard to help search for the lost students, and the Riley County Sheriff’s office is working 12-hour shifts until this situation is resolved. No suspects have been named, but a formal investigation has been established. The missing students’ names have not been released pending confirmation of their disappearance. This site will continue to keep up with the latest information and breaks in the case, so check back with evolution: take the next step.

i have been a bump on the ass of society today. all i did was lay around on the couch and watch nfl games (including the chiefs, who beat the raiders 20-10) and game 7 of the world series (anaheim 4-1). seriously though, it felt good to just lounge around for a day.

i am slowly piecing this back together. i liked the color scheme, but the layout was getting on my nerves, and hard to read besides. i think this layout will look much cleaner.

my roommate had a party this weekend, and apparently some of the neighbors didn’t like it (i wouldn’t know, i wasn’t here - i was in lawrence), so we got a mild nastygram from the property management company. after all the noise we’ve had to put up with since we’ve moved in here, i think we have earned the right to cut loose once in a while. the property managers didn’t agree. now we are going to be ultra nit-picky about the noise and give our dumbass neighbors hell. the address is 701 N. 9th street. screw these people.
rant concluded. i spent most of the day doing homework and planning my lesson, which i will be giving at 7:30 in the morning - a task i do not relish. my students are troupers and most show up every day, and i admire them, but i must admit i don’t want to be there any more than they do. note to self: request later teaching assignment in the spring.

i sort of gave up writing in my huge diary when i started this web site. now i don’t even maintain it that much, as you can tell by the spacing of my posts. i really don’t have anything to say right now.
