i think that the nfl overtime rules are inherently unfair. the sudden death overtime is essentially decided by the coin toss - the team who wins can simply drive down the field and kick a field goal in 4 plays to win it, preventing the other offense from even getting on the field.
no, i am not just saying this because my kansas city chiefs lost an overtime game in just this fashion to the defending champs yesterday. i have thought about this for a very long time. the “no-fun league” should change the overtime rules a la the college overtime - each team gets one possession from, say, the 35-yard line (beyond “gimme” field goal range), and one time out. no time is kept other than the play clock, and the leader at the end of any overtime is the winner. if a team’s possession ends via a turnover, the other team takes over at the 35, unless the turnover is returned for a touchdown, in which case the game is over. i think this would be more equitable for both teams, and much more exciting. can you imagine a super bowl being decided in this fashion? the ratings would be through the roof, even for a super bowl.

so much for the last entry. the first calculus test kind of stunk. i haven’t seen the course average yet, but it’s safe to assume that it is bad. i will wait for that before i pass final judgement.
we had our first calculus test tonight. it seemed to go okay, but we’ll know for sure in a few days.
i have not forgotten.
“e is the center of the universe.” - prof. robert b. burckel, k-state dept. of mathematics.
e is the constant 2.7181… that occurs naturally in dozens of real-world applications and is important to the development of the theory of trigonometry and complex numbers. the “e” is for euler, as in the 17th c. swiss mathematician leonhard euler, who gave us most of the modern notations and conventions mathematicians use, along with discovering hundreds of concepts integral (no pun intended) to modern mathematics.
i still haven’t worked on any new layouts. but then again, i haven’t done anything else either. i have quizzes to grade and homework to finish.
i have not worked at all on any new layout for this site. if you (all two of my readers) out there have gotten attached to this one - that’s okay, i won’t be replacing it for a long time to come. and God only knows when i might.
in the meantime, just be glad you aren’t these people.
this may sound like utter insanity, but i am thinking about working on another layout for this site.
