chiefs report: week 1
in week one, the chiefs hammered the chargers by the count of 27-14. RB priest holmes rolled up 183 yards of offense and had two touchdowns. QB trent green had a solid game, going 21-32 for 282 yards and a touchdown, throwing an interception and losing a fumble. green was also sacked three times, which tells me that the chargers’ defense didn’t play badly - they were simply solidly whipped by the chiefs’ offense.
the chiefs’ defense was very solid in this one. newly-signed DT vonnie holliday had 3 sacks, and newly-signed LB shawn barber made a nuisance of himself in both the pass and the run. last sunday also marked the return of one of my favorite chiefs, hard-hitting FS jerome woods, who missed all of last season with a wicked knee injury suffered in the first preseason game of last year.
the chiefs looked pretty sharp. they have the pass-happy (???) pittsburgh steelers in kc this sunday, which will be even more of a test for the defense. green and the speedy receiving group are licking their chops for sure - the steelers are suspect in pass defense and are without team leader and MLB joey porter, the innocent victim of a drive-by shooting.
