purdue sweetened their offer to me even after i had already made up my mind to attend. they are offering me a bigger stipend, and a year off from teaching. now, i don’t mind the teaching; in fact, i like getting in the classroom. but, it will be nice to focus on passing the qualifying exams straight away as opposed to taking a year or so of classes first.
