  1. Hi J.D.,

I tried to contact you through the ‘contact’ feature of this site, but couldn’t (I kept being prompted for a non-existent code). So I thought I’d throw this here.

I ran across a link to your post about the Pink Taco via the Wikipedia page on Aggieville.

I’m the guy who came up with the concept for the Pink Taco restaurant & bar and opened the store in Aggieville (I also roped 2 friends into helping me out). I stepped down as president and sold my stake to the family of my ‘kitchen manager partner ‘(for a whopping profit of $1) right after we changed the name to Bordertown. I think it closed down about 3-4 months later. At that point, the partner who was in charge of the food for the Pink Taco/Bordertown also bought out the other remaining partner, and opened up Mini’s by himself with help from his family.

I certainly can’t dispute that the food was ’substandard’ (to be a bit euphemistic), especially on its bad days. I look back and laugh at how inexperienced and incompetent we were, not just in regards to the food, but in every aspect of running a business. To draw an analogy, it reminds me of when I got my first musical instrument–a clarinet in 3rd grade–and spent a while squealing out harsh, honky, fingernails-on-blackboard-like tones.

Anyway, I’m writing because I thought you’d get a kick out of my latest project, which you can view here: https://www.booyahpizza.com/ (trust me, it’s vastly different from what you may think based on the name; also, there are further twists that you won’t know unless you read the business plan)

If the Pink Taco was the harsh squealing of a clarinet, Booyah! Inc is more akin to Andy McKee’s Drifting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4

  2. Just to be clear–

This isn’t a solicitation: I’m not asking for anything from you at all. I just thought you’d find it interesting (due to your knowledge of the Pink Taco and your K-State ties).

    James

  3. Really, it’s quite all right. That is all very interesting, and since that post gets a ton of referrals from Wikipedia, I’ll update it to point to this one.

May I also suggest Wildcat Nation Network if you want to make other connections with K-Staters. I’ve been away a while now, and I miss it a great deal.
