Speaking seriously now - there's no reason Lawrence couldn't have those types of places -- and the resultant economic benefits -- because it's simply better than Topeka and KCK and "hipper" than Olathe or Overland Park (for those who care about that crap). No reason, of course, except for the pain that Lawrence provincials and the City Commission inflict on anyone who tries. People aren't going to Wyandotte County to shop at Wal-Mart or Costco, which are the types of stores we do have here. They're going to Cabela's and Nebraska Furniture Mart, which are stores on the kind of massive scale that only go into urban areas like KC, not in places like Lawrence. You might be right about the hypocrisy, but this ain't the proof. I think you overstate the case a little bit, J.D.
