injustice

Few people in baseball have done as much for the sport as Kansas City icon Buck O’Neil. Despite his signal efforts at getting baseball to recognize the role of the old Negro Leagues in the sport at large, even to the point of now having 35 Negro League ballplayers in the Hall of Fame, a committee of Hall of Fame voters did not see fit to include O’Neil himself.

This Kansas City Star editorial by Joe Posnanski explains it all, including how O’Neil’s very reaction to the news proves he deserves the honor. Buck O’Neil is 94, and although he’s in remarkable condition for someone that age, it’s merely a statement of reality that he hasn’t long left.

Hopefully someone at the Hall will correct this.
