lake suing westar to pay for legal fees

Former Westar Energy executive Douglas Lake is suing the company. He wants it to pay for his legal fees.

“Former?” you ask. “Legal fees?” you ask. Lake was convicted in September of helping CEO David Wittig loot the company of millions of dollars. Westar is Kansas’s largest energy provider. Lake and Wittig are looking at lengthy prison sentences. Wittig already owes the State of Kansas four years.

At issue is a provision in Lake’s contract providing for “reasonable” legal expenses to be paid by the company. I’d say Lake violated his end of the contract when he stole from the company, but that’s just me.
