second ku class flap, II
It’s good to see that at least some of the Lawrence Journal-World’s readers show some sense on the second KU class flap.
It might not have been clear from my original post (second link above), but apart from general mild mockery, I don’t believe Prof. Mirecki should be subjected to any university sanction. If I were his dean, I’d call him into my office and jump up and down on him for a few minutes for making my life harder, but that’d be the end of it, and he’d teach his class the way he’d planned all along. I suspect that is what his dean did.
As I noted, I believe Prof. Mirecki’s remarks were intemperate and unprofessional, coming as they do from a position of public trust. He apologized for them, and as far as I’m concerned that’s the end of it.
The creationist side of it is simply posturing for pecuniary and electoral gain. Were there evidence of a pattern of anti-Christian discrimination across KU’s academic departments, then perhaps legislative outrage (OUTRAGE!!) would be justified. As I see it, though, there is no evidence of any such thing.
