k-state: uva’s prince to replace snyder?

According to ESPN.com’s Ivan Maisel, Virginia offensive coordinator Ron Prince impressed his K-State interviewers so much that they invited him to Manhattan, sending the team plane to pick him up.

Prince, 36, would be just the fourth black head coach in Division I-A football. He, according to the article, has built a reputation for developing prime-grade talent.

Other names have been coming up. Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator, Brent Venables (a former KSU assistant) has been mentioned, but he is said not to be interested, and would not be a popular pick with many fans. South Florida head coach Jim Leavitt has been mentioned, but he signed a contract extension through 2012 with South Florida today. Leavitt (also a former Snyder assistant) built the USF program from scratch. Also mentioned are Wildcat offensive coordinators Dana Dimel and Del Miller.

BREAKING: Scout.com is reporting that Prince’s hire is imminent, and waiting only for a meeting with K-State President Jon Wefald.
