» Keep running, Shep. You just might catch that Pulitzer. But with that hat on, we won’t be able to see your hair. Seriously — I have seen not more than a handful of instances where these “journalists” have done even the most basic research before going to air.

» Some people don’t like to look in a mirror, Commissar. [Note to lefties with a conscience: Before you start bitching to me about anything, maybe you should think about what you expected when the movers and shakers on your side built a party platform around the sheer petty hatred of just over half the electorate. You didn't do a thing to stop it. Don't be surprised when the editorial hammer comes down on you, too.]

» Reynolds again on the local authorities — who I feel have let their citizens down. Consider this same region of the country in the 1960s when black students attempted to enroll in college and were prevented from doing so by local authorities. The situation was monitored by President John Kennedy for a few days, during which the situation got worse; state and local authorities were dropping the ball. President Kennedy finally said (and I’m paraphrasing) “Screw you — we need to do the right thing here, and I’m federalizing the National Guard. These kids are going to college.” That was the right action then, and I believe that’s what’s happening now with President Bush. He does need, though, to be just as forceful with this situation as Kennedy was with the students (and as Bush himself was after 09.11), and in a big hurry. Also remember that most of the city police and Louisiana National Guardsmen have also lost their houses and maybe even their families.

» All those stories about Europeans and others sniffing at America because of looters and muggers in New Orleans? Ignore ‘em. People risk life and limb to cross our borders and wash up on our beaches for a reason. In fifty or a hundred years, when their economies fail, they’ll be doing it too. And another thing: We responded overwhelmingly to the tsunami, and were called “stingy” for our efforts. Where are they now?

» [UPDATE:] Yes!
