riemann hypothesis

On 06.09 I talked about a possible proof of the Riemann hypothesis proffered by Prof. Louis de Branges of Purdue University, where I spent a year studying mathematics.

Now, MathWorld is reporting that not only does his paper not contain a full-fledged proof, a counterexample to de Branges’ approach has been known for some time.

As I noted in my earlier post, I got the impression from the Kansas State mathematicians I knew that de Branges was “the boy who cried ‘proof’”, as it were. It looks at the moment like they were right.
