something worth remembering
visit the web site of the foundation for individual rights in education. they are a civil-rights organization committed to defending the true liberal ideal of education - that the legitimate viewpoints of all students with conscience are respected, and all things - politics, religion, all the dividing lines - are fair game for fair-minded discussion.
you can read about some frightening acts of silencing and suppression of rights (mostly by the left on other people, but cases of all kinds can be found) on college campuses in every area of the country, including my own, purdue university. [break: it bears noting that purdue's president resolved fire's complaint swiftly and to the satisfaction of all involved. you can read about it in fire's case archive.] you can also read how the foundation came to the defense of all of the students that called upon its services.
you right-wing types out there have nothing to fear when i say that fire is a “civil-rights organization” - it is certainly not the aclu. the aclu mostly defends people who want to suppress religious thought and advance leftist causes, only reaching out to people like rush limbaugh (who i cannot stand to listen to) when they are in need of publicity. no, i think any fair-minded individual will see that fire really does defend freedom of reasonable thought, speech, and conscience for everyone. fire is a cause worth supporting.
